The dietary needs of Triops evolve as they grow, and their diet must be tailored to each life stage to support healthy development.

At birth, the microscopic larvae (nauplii) initially rely on their yolk reserves for the first few hours. Soon after, they begin feeding on microorganisms present in the water, such as unicellular algae, bacteria, or infusorians*.

After a few days, young Triops nauplii require finely powdered food, such as spirulina or microalgae, to ensure proper growth and development.

By around 10 days, when they reach 5 to 10 mm (juvenile stage), specialized Triops pellets containing proteins and plant-based ingredients can be introduced.

As they mature into adults (2 to 3 weeks), their appetite grows, and their diet diversifies. They accept a broader range of foods, including small fish pellets, boiled vegetable pieces (carrots, zucchini, spinach), mosquito larvae, brine shrimp, daphnia, bloodworms, or even dried shrimp fragments. As opportunistic feeders, they also consume organic debris or their own molts, but overfeeding must be avoided to prevent water pollution.

A varied diet with moderate portions (1 to 2 times daily) ensures their health and optimal development throughout their lifespan.

* Infusoria: a microscopic aquatic world at the base of the food chain

Infusorians are microscopic organisms living in suspension in fresh or brackish water. Their name originates from their tendency to feed on plant infusions.

Infusorians encompass a wide variety of aquatic microorganisms, including protozoans, ciliates, paramecia, rotifers, euglenoids, and certain unicellular algae.
